WNS Group CEO Keshav R. Murugesh discussed the global impact of the Indian tech industry during his keynote address at the India Conference at Harvard 2023. In a fireside chat with Harvard Business School Professor, Vikram Gandhi, Keshav explored topics such as India's rapid digitization, the emerging gig economy and how businesses are transforming through large-scale automation.

At the Fortune Global Sustainability Forum, WNS Group CEO Keshav R. Murugesh and other industry leaders shared their perspectives on why enterprises should prioritize the building of sustainable supply chains to address the climate change challenge.

Keshav shares his views on the future of technology and data at the seventh edition of the Digital India.

Captains of the tech industry like Keshav Murugesh, group chief executive officer of WNS applaud the government’s drone manufacturing initiatives. “By introducing all of these changes it positions India in a very different format, in the world markets. Because everyone has understood that India is now the place to go to for tech solutions,” says Murugesh in an exclusive interview with Fortune India.

India’s tech industry—which is now estimated to contribute to around 10% of the country’s GDP—has led India Inc.’s recovery from the ensuing Covid-19 pandemic. The reason being an accelerated digital and technology adoption by companies across the board. “For me, I would say that we are at the start of a really good time in the industry. I call it BPM (business process management) 3.0,” says Keshav Murugesh, group chief executive officer, WNS, a global BMP service provider, in an exclusive interview with Fortune India.

WNS grew 12.6% constant currency organic in the last quarter and our head count grew just 1percent. This means we were driving non-linear models and becoming much more relevant to clients. That's the model of the future says Keshav Murugesh, CEO WNS Global Services. The business of the future is going to be an intersection of horizontal vertical as well as geography. The industry grew about 19.8% in terms of revenue and grew about 14% in terms of head count in the last 6 years

Keshav states that the outsourcing industry has grown up the value chain to offer critical and high-end business support solutions. He says, “Today, we are providing analytics, finance & accounting, and high-end decision support solutions to some of the top brands globally. So both Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney have realized that we are an extension of their enterprise. In fact, if they didn’t encourage us, a lot of companies in the U.S. would actually face trouble running their day-to-day business.”

The contemporary BPO industry is far different from what it was a decade ago. It has not only grown in size, but also in terms of capabilities, driving business outcomes and competitive advantage for large corporations. It’s time the BPO industry grabs the limelight!

NASSCOM has rightly identified the need to rebrand the BPO industry in order to attract top-drawer talent. The industry should have a dialog with the academic community and parents to convince them that BPO can be a career of choice.

With the passage of time, the business process outsourcing industry has evolved. However, the messaging has not kept pace with this evolution. It is time to bust the myths surrounding this industry, and acquaint the stakeholders with its potential.
